quasi niente
« quasi niente » (almost nothing) belongs to a line of photographic research that questions the very nature of the image. In an era dominated by visual overproduction, Nicola Galli works through subtraction, reducing the intervention to the minimum gesture required for a transformation to occur.
A fold impressed into a sheet of paper introduces structure, tension, and verticality. It is not a decorative mark but a constructive act: the surface becomes a body, inertia assumes a position. Photography does not document this process; it completes it.
Through light, the volume emerges and the balance between fragility and stability becomes perceptible. In this sense, Galli’s work occupies a threshold territory between photography andsculpture, challenging the very idea of medium. The image is not representation, but the consequence of a real structure and a primary gesture.
The radical nature of “quasi niente” lies in discipline. Every superfluous element is removed. What remains is a primary structure, a vertical tension that suggests an anthropomorphic condition and opens a broader reflection: between occupying space and taking a direction, between existing and being.
In this sense, the work claims the possibility of a silent, structural and coherent form ofresearch, capable of constructing profound meaning through a minimal gesture.
